Cyprus Pedagogical Institute

The Cyprus Pedagogical Institute (CPI) was founded in 1972 by the Council of Ministers, following Professor E.G. Wedell’s UNESCO report “Cyprus – Teacher and Educational Development.” It began operating in 1973 as a national center dedicated to teacher training, professional reflection, and collaboration, aiming to enhance the quality and development of education in Cyprus.

Over the years, the Institute has broadened its scope to include curriculum design, educational research, and the production of teaching materials for schools. It also serves as an advisory and support body for the Ministry of Education, contributing to the continuous professional development of teachers and the improvement of educational policy and practice.

The mission of the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute is to promote lifelong learning and professional growth for teachers at all levels. It keeps educators informed about modern pedagogical approaches, supports innovation in teaching, and helps integrate new technologies into the learning process. Its work combines teacher training, research, and the creation of educational resources that strengthen the quality of education in Cyprus.

Based in Nicosia, the Institute operates as a leading center for educational progress, staffed by experienced professionals with advanced academic qualifications. It collaborates closely with the Ministry of Education and with universities and experts in Cyprus and abroad, fostering the exchange of knowledge and ideas through seminars, research projects, and training programs.

The Cyprus Pedagogical Institute has been and continues to be an active partner in European Erasmus+ initiatives such as the STEAME, STEAME Teacher Facilitators Academy, GEO-Academy, STEAME For Saving Life and DATA-READY. By engaging in these and similar projects, the Institute both strengthens its long-standing role in European educational collaboration and continues to promote creative, modern, and sustainable teaching practices in Cyprus and beyond.

Through its commitment to teacher education, research, and innovation, the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute continues to play a central role in shaping a modern, dynamic, and high-quality education system for Cyprus.
