The INSTITUTE for the DEVELOPMENT of EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT (IDEA)

Founded in 2007, the Institute for the Development of Educational Assessment (IDEA) is a professional association that brings together experienced teachers and researchers in the field of educational sciences. The members of IDEA have experience in developing and supporting a variety of educational programmes among which curriculum development and assessment design are the most important. The association aims to create a professional community able to design and implement functional mechanisms for increasing the quality of education at local and global levels, with a special focus on the assessment area. More specifically, the activities of the association include research and development of assessment systems for competencies acquired in formal and non-formal contexts, competence-based curriculum development, organisation of national and international knowledge contests, and virtual meeting spaces for children and young people to share knowledge and experiences. It is also specialized in delivering workshops and teacher training programs on improving the teaching methodology, as well as active citizenship, respect for diversity, and entrepreneurship education. IDEA also facilitates programmes for national and international intercultural youth exchange; cultural and social programmes to assist lifelong-learning education; editorial activities; camps and trips in the country and abroad for children and adults. The average number of staff is 6. IDEA collaborates with more than 300 teachers every year to implement its programs.

IDEA has organised training sessions, educational counselling workshops, seminars, and national and international conferences. IDEA organizes teams of teachers who develop content for students’ assessment for the Romanian language, modern languages, mathematics, science, and civic education. IDEA has a particular interest in developing methodologies for improving the teaching and learning of mathematics in school settings and beyond. In this respect, it has organised summer camps where students have been involved in developing mathematical projects and other extra-curricular activities, such as student competitions. IDEA has developed software for the students’ online assessment and a platform on which students can take tests and receive personalized feedback, including a detailed analysis of the answers, comments on the mistakes made, and ways of improvement.

Through its projects and initiatives, IDEA seeks to validate its mission to contribute to quality extra-curricular learning, useful in real life for the personal fulfilment and optimal social integration of children and youth, by fostering creativity, critical thinking, and practical skills that empower them to thrive in an ever-changing world.
